People think if they quit smoking, they are going to be giving up
their freedom and the cool enjoyment of this special pastime. They
really are off the mark here. What they are going to gain is a treat to
their self-esteem that's satisfying on the same level as a piece of
chocolate bread.
I'll bet few of you have tasted the ecstasy that comes from a piece
of that bread. One reason might be because it's one of those hidden
treats that bakeries don't bake except maybe in winter months. You might
almost say it's about as hard to find chocolate bread as it is to find a
real born-again true to form ex-smoker.
And it strikes me that if people could really comprehend how
delicious it would be to become an ex-smoker— they would jump on the
bandwagon before nightfall. And the taste of being an ‘ex' can only be
compared to the taste of some real chocolate bread.
Let me describe how it feels to me when I bite into a piece that I
have just removed from the microwave after I've taken a break from work.
It is that crisp combination of chocolate pieces interspersed in the
bread. It's like I am transformed from my mundane existence of helping
folks stop smoking into a sort of lord over everything around me.
It just lasts ten minutes…But in that time the freshly brown piece of
chocolate bread goes from outside matter into the warmth of my being.
If that's not what happens when someone quits smoking I'll eat any old
piece of bread!
Now for those of you who are on the fence about becoming new
ex-smokers as well as fresh devotees of chocolate bread, let me suggest
that you tackle the chocolate bread thing first:
First, locate a baker or a bake-friend or (hey!) yourself and obtain
one fresh loaf and carry it homeward. Now set it on a cutting block, and
proceed to slice nice thick pieces from the loaf. Now put all of the
pieces in a large plastic bag and place them in the freezer. But don't
forget to remove one piece for your treat today. Now this first piece
can be consumed as is.
Now sit down with this first piece on a plate and just take a deep
breath. Now pick up the piece and bite it. And just say to yourself:
"This is exactly how quitting smoking will be for me."
And each day thereafter at a specific time of day or night open the
door of your freezer and just take one of the slices and put it in the
microwave—for just twenty seconds, and get ready again.
And once more say: "This is just the way quitting smoking is going to taste to me."
Now having done this for one week, prove the thing to yourself with a quit smoking scheme!
…Now your life has two more blessings.
